ISOC Lebanon Chapter announces the Gaby Deek Internet Innovation Award, organized by the Internet Society Lebanon (ISOC-LB) and ESIB (Engineering Faculty, Saint Joseph University - USJ) to recognize the best three undergraduate students’ final year projects in the general area of the Internet. The award event took place at the ESIB Campus in Mar Roukos, on Thursday May 26, 2022, and attended by ESIB students, faculty and staff, the late Gaby Deek’s close family and friends, and ISOC Lebanon board members.
“Gaby Deek was a sudden and sad lost to all; he was a visionary and an activist for a better Internet for everyone in Lebanon. This initiative is to keep his memory and legacy alive.”, said Dr. Nicolas Rouhana, ISOC Lebanon President, as opening remarks.
“We’re very honored that ISOC Lebanon chose ESIB’s students for the launch of the first edition of Gaby Deek Internet Innovation Award”, said Prof. Wassim Raphael, Dean of Engineering (ESIB – USJ). “Gaby was an ESIB graduate and an active member of the USJ for so long. We look forward to future collaboration with ISOC Lebanon and help grow this initiative in Gaby’s memory.” he added.
“Gaby was a brother-in-arms, an advocate to the Internet and ICT in Lebanon and an inspiration to everyone.” said Nabil Bukhalid, ISOC-LB Vice-President. “He gave so much to the community and we’ll always honor his memory”, he also added..
During the event, teams of undergraduate students had the opportunity to demonstrate their technical skills, and presented Internet related problems and constraints, the design and implementation of their solutions, in front of a jury comprised of ESIB faculty and ISOC-LB board members.
The Gaby Deek Internet Innovation Award first edition recognized the best three undergraduate students’ final year projects in the general area of the Internet.
