Gaby Deek Internet Innovation Award Celebrates Remarkable Success in Fostering Technological Excellence

Beirut, August 21, 2023 – The Gaby Deek Internet Innovation Award, a prestigious inter-university competition organized by the ISOC Lebanon Chapter, concluded with resounding success on July 13, 2023. This innovative event, held in honor of the late Gaby Deek, a dedicated member of ISOC and its president, took place at the esteemed premises of the Ecole Supérieure des Ingénieurs Beyrouth (ESIB), Faculty of Engineering, Saint Joseph University (USJ), in the presence of Gaby Deek’s family.

The competition opened the door to third and fourth-year undergraduate students to showcase their final-year projects aligned with ISOC’s ambitious 2023 action plan.

From the pool of candidates, three students have won, each presenting solutions that captured the spirit of innovation and technical prowess.

In recognition of their efforts, the winners were awarded the following prizes:

  • First Place (USD 1,000 Prize): Simulating LEO Satellite Broadband Connectivity Across the Globe, presented by Jean-Marc Tohme & Samer Chahine.
  • Second Place (USD 900 Prize): Domain Name Portfolio Analysis, presented by Peter Chehade & Fouad Bou Doumit.
  • Third Place (USD 600 Prize): WhatsApp VS Signal Testing Under Various Network Conditions, presented by Charbel Haddad & Charbel Aoun.
  • Moreover, Dalia Abou Chakra (NDU), who showcased her project, the "Smart Restaurant Ordering System," earned a Certificate of Participation.

The resounding success of the Gaby Deek Internet Innovation Award is a testament to the dynamic and enterprising spirit of Lebanon's emerging technological talents. The event's triumph paves the way for its expansion in the forthcoming seasons, as it aims to encompass participation from additional universities.
